As Mayor, Matthew will ensure that any Active Travel schemes are done in full consultation with the communities they impact.  No more top down decisions like the cycle lane on High Pavement in Sutton in Ashfield or the plans on Kirkby Folly Road.  He will introduce incentives to businesses to encourage cycling to work but will ensure we have a highway’s infrastructure fit for purpose.

Matthew said, “The main obstacle to cycling is clearly the state of our highways. Whilst the Government’s intention over Active Travel is a good one – the decisions on cycling infrastructure improvements must be made by local people and the communities they impact. This must include off road cycling.”

Cycling: “Local people must make the decision over cycle lanes.”
