Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are suffering from a ‘brain drain’, with only 35% of graduates our three universities remaining in the East Midlands following graduation.  Matthew will introduce incentives to local businesses to recruit local graduates. 

As Mayor, Matthew will embrace and other new technologies, which will bring major social and economic benefits to the East Midlands.    He is already delivering an Automated Distribution and Manufacturing Centre in Ashfield.   Under Matthew’s leadership, a national centre of excellence focused on promoting and providing access to the latest technologies and best practice in automated distribution will be delivered with others planned across the region.

Councillor Relf said, “I have a track record of using new technologies to deliver both educational and regeneration benefits.  The East Midlands has a unique opportunity to embrace new technologies – we need to look forward not back.  By ensuring our young people have the opportunities to learn and that businesses have the right incentives to thrive – I will the Mayor that embraces new technology and the enhancements to life chances that brings.”
